Project Information

The 7 MW solar power project developed for Coal India Ltd. in Jharkhand by KIIPL represents a critical step in reducing the carbon footprint of India’s largest coal-producing company. Executed with a total investment of ₹28.62 Crore, the project aligns with the company’s vision to diversify its energy sources and integrate sustainable practices into mining operations.

Jharkhand, being a hub of mining activity, experiences significant energy consumption. By introducing solar energy into its operations, Coal India not only reduces its reliance on fossil fuel-based electricity but also takes a bold step toward environmental responsibility. The 7 MW plant is capable of generating roughly 11 million units of clean electricity per year.

KIIPL's focus was to ensure that the plant would remain efficient and cost-effective, even in challenging terrain and climatic conditions of eastern India. The solar system is designed to require minimal maintenance while delivering reliable energy for decades.

Project Scope

The full scope of this project included EPC delivery of the solar plant. It began with detailed topographical surveys, shadow analysis, and soil testing. Civil works included building foundations suitable for the soil type and climate, internal roads, drainage infrastructure, and site leveling.

The mounting system was custom-built using corrosion-resistant materials and installed to withstand wind loads and seismic activity. Electrical work comprised complete DC stringing, inverter station installation, AC cabling, transformer setup, and grid-tied configuration.

KIIPL also provided project documentation, safety manuals, and training for onsite maintenance personnel. The plant is equipped with smart monitoring systems and is compliant with CEIG (Chief Electrical Inspector to the Government) standards, ensuring long-term operational security.
